Unhate Campaign

The UNHATE Foundation, desired and founded by the Benetton Group, seeks to contribute to the creation of a new culture of tolerance, to combat hatred, building on Benetton’s underpinning values. It is another important step in the group’s social responsibility strategy: not a cosmetic exercise, but a contribution that will have a real impact on the international community, especially through the vehicle of communication, which can reach social players in different areas.

The Foundation will organise initiatives involving different stakeholders, from the new generations to the institutions, international organisations and NGOs, through to civil society.

The Foundation also aims to be a think tank, attracting personalities and talents from the fields of culture, economy, law and politics, and people who have gone from simple citizens to leaders of movements, distinguishing themselves through their ideas and actions against the causes and effects of hatred.

MOP: LGBTQ & Straight Ally Youth Conference

It’s time for Models of Pride! This year the conference is being held on the USC campus on Saturday, October 15th. Free for all youth and parents. REGISTER HERE!

Models of Pride (MOP) is a free one-day conference that focuses on the concerns and interests of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning (LGBTQ) youth up to age 24, and their allies. Words like camaraderie, safety and a strong sense of belonging have been used by hundreds of youth to describe this annual conference.

The Models of Pride conference is filled with workshops, a resource fair, exciting entertainment, food, a dance, and lots of new friends. By breaking the conference into tracks, we’ve provided something for everyone! This year we have a YOUTH TRACK and a COLLEGE TRACK for students. We also have a PARENT TRACK where parents and guardians can access information and resources, and ask questions in a safe and supportive environment. And for a nominal fee, Models of Pride also offers a PROFESSIONAL TRACK for service providers and educators looking to enrich their skills to support our community.

Last year, in addition to the regular conference, we were treated to performances by Kathy Griffin, cast members from the hit show Glee, dancers from League of Extraordinary Dancers, and an address from the Oscar-winning screenwriter of Milk, Mr. Dustin Lance Black.

Workshop Topics Include:
Relationships • History • Sexuality • Family issues • Political Activism• Gender Identity • Mental Health • Culture • Safer Sex • Self-Esteem • Recreation/Sports • Foster Care • Substance Use & Abuse • Literature • Spirituality • HIV/AIDS/STIs • Education • Religion • Disabilities Careers • Gay-Straight Alliances • Immigration • Arts • Hate Crimes/Harassment • Ethnic/Cultural Identity • Media/Communications • Legal Issues & Rights.

“Asian Americans against LGBTQQIA bullying”

Special thanks to Ron at Myx.tv for writing this article on The Learn to Love Project.

…the Learn to Love Project has begun to embark on a number of efforts to change the way spaces are organized on both college and high school campuses, to accommodate queer API students’ needs. The first part of their plan is to create a network of all of the colleges throughout California (and eventually the rest of the United States), and establish a presence on each campus. In doing this, this will allow for the Learn to Love Project to come in and create spaces for the Queer API students of that campus to drop in and make that space their own. The secondary goal here is to gather enough student leaders from our community to drop by local high schools and share their experiences with the school’s GSA (Gay-Straight Alliance) or QSU (Queer Student Union). There is also a possible third component to these plans that would take post-grad students back into their college classrooms to talk about life in the real world with their compadres, allowing them to see that there is a bigger picture for them and establishing a sense of hope past the walls of their campus.
